Reduce Stress With These 5 Simple Tips

TUNE IN: APPLE PODCASTS | SPOTIFY | STITCHER

Happy Stress Awareness Month! Who has a hard time saying yes to themselves? Maybe it’s because of too many projects, home life, children, appointments, you name it, there’s always an excuse.

What if I told you there were 5 easy tips you could do to reduce your stress today? I challenge you to be open to these tips I’m about to give you and then, implement each one into your daily life. If you have any questions PLEASE reach out to me at sarahalysse@livewellenhanceyou.com

The first one is to breathe! Breathing exercises tend to put an emphasis on your diaphragm. When you take a deep breath, your diaphragm is contracting and allowing your lungs to expand with oxygen. Then when your diaphragm relaxes, you push carbon dioxide out. Belly breathing is better for stress relief than chest breathing, which is shallow breathing.

If breathing or saying a positive word isn’t your thing. Find something to listen to that will light you up. I’ve been listening to Shonda Rhimes Year of Yes, and it leaves me in a positive vibration throughout the day.

Second: nourish your soul. This is my favorite, food and hydration are extremely important. Pay attention to your body, and see what is irritating it. Adjust your nutrition accordingly. Sometimes we choose food that is comforting because that’s how we have learned to cope with a stressor.

Third: taking time for yourself. How often do you give yourself a break? Even 15 minutes at a time can be beneficial. Start with 3 15 minute breaks a day and see how much better you feel!

Four: Move your body! There are so many different ways to move your body. Walk, run, pilates, yoga, biking, tennis, golf. Something that sparks joy and will give you variety! You don’t have to do the same thing all the time.

Five: Develop a nighttime ritual. How often are you still on your computer at night checking your email? Close the curtain so to speak on your workday. Relax, and let go of the workday. Change your clothes as soon as you get home. Start a ritual that will stick. We are on the screen so much, one of the things I suggest is trying to find an activity without using our eyes.
