Episode 33: Realities of American Culture | Sany Nguyen
TUNE IN: APPLE PODCASTS | SPOTIFY | STITCHER
Vlogger, Health & Wellness Ambassador, and Speaker Sany Nguyen loves being a ‘foody’ anywhere she goes. Sany is able to balance going on adventures, staying active, exploring the beauty of this world, all while finding ways we can live as the best possible version of ourselves!
She truly stands behind her mantra of finding “balance, intention, and delight in all I eat, see and do.” Hence her handle Sany Delight.
First and foremost Sany was a lawyer but started her blog on the side. Since she started that blog she’s really become a lifestyle brand.
Her name, Sany Delight, is a play on words from both her name and her birth city. She is from San Diego California, and her parents named her after that city, Sany for San Diego. She also used her mantra, and felt like Sany Delight rolled off the tongue easily!
She has really taken on her brand and ran with it. She has worked hard for it, but outside of working hard and being a storyteller, she also does all kinds of community work.
She volunteered for food pantries during Covid and works with Celebrate Argyle.
She got into community service in high school with the goal of being able to add it to her college application. That is where she learned where her parents were getting all of these resources that made it feel like they always had enough.
She was aware at a young age that her family was a hard-working, lower/middle class family, but she always felt like they had enough. “The only way I was able to feel like that was because my parents found these resources,” Sany says.
As she learned more about these things she spent more time in after-school programs, mentoring little kids, and just finding ways to get involved in her community.
That’s when she realized she found so much fulfillment in her life, and she realized her intention is to live a life that is fulfilled not only when she gets home but for those that are impacted by her.
Since then, she’s never looked back!
She has over 15 years of experience in the non-profit sector. Prior to being an attorney, she worked for three separate, not for profits.
As a result of food deserts all around Chicago, and Covid-19 affecting so many different families, that’s when she realized she had the resources in her brand as well as in her experience in how she could create these food pantries, what it is that they need, how to get the word out, who to focus on, and so forth.
Celebrate Argyle is her vision she created after September 2020. She thought about what it would mean to her own community and what it would be like to help her own Southeast Asian community. So she decided to focus on the uptown Chicago area where there is a heavy population and density of Southeast Asians and created what is now known as Celebrate Argyle, which is all the opposite of the anti-Asian hate.
Their goal is to celebrate the diversity and the culture and traditions that make Asia and Asian countries so beautiful.
You don’t have to be from Chicago to learn about Southeast Asia. We are providing resources that not only shed light on these business owners, but their history and their stories, that make up the makeup of Asian-Americans in Chicago.
Hopefully in the end it will sparks some type of interest to create something in your own city, in a neighborhood, whether you choose to celebrate Asian communities, or Latinx community, Black community, Middle Eastern, Celebrate Argyle is an opportunity to see how they did it and propel you to celebrate other cultures in your neighborhood.
Sany also shares her journey of running multiple marathons, what she learned from each one, and what it’s like to be an influencer of multiple brands.
