Develop new nutritional habits

It’s so easy to get off track with pumpkin everything and the brisk weather placing you back in the mood for heartier foods. As a coach, my clients specifically mention football season being extremely difficult because of the bad bar options and peer pressure. When going out with friends it’s important to stay true to yourself and your health journey. I realize that salads aren’t always an option but there are a couple of tricks to keep you on the right path.

  • Bring a bag of veggies with you in a small backpack or a purse. I will never forget the time I met this teacher at a bar who brought carrots and cucumbers with her everywhere to encourage her to eat more veggies.

  • Find one item on the menu to satisfy your cravings. Take note how that food makes your stomach feel then repeat but try with a different food item next week.

  • Choose a water or seltzer with a lemon/lime to drink. This is a great way to prevent you from excessively drinking while keeping you hydrated.

  • Aim to not drink more than 2 alcoholic beverages (men) and 1 (women) for the whole game. (American Heart Association recommendation)

Don’t beat yourself up if you have an overindulgent day. Challenge yourself the following week to do better. What has been your biggest nutritional challenge every fall season?? Share your story with me! E-mail me at sarah@livewellenhanceyou.com
