Episode 49: Prioritizing Yourself Allows You to Prioritize Others | Mr. Jay

TUNE IN: APPLE PODCASTS | SPOTIFY | STITCHER

My guest today is Mr. Jay!!

Mr. Jay is a Betrayal Trauma Practitioner and Intrapersonal Relationship Coach. He holds a master's degree in Education, is a Certified Special Education teacher, and author of a children’s book, I Am Loved Right Where I Am, a Veteran of the United States Military, an Inspirational Public Speaker, adoptive parent and so much more!

But….

His childhood was anything but success. After years of drugs alcohol and years in Special Ed, Mr. Jay quit school in 6th grade, ultimately living on the streets falling victim to abuse after abuse. After the second gun to his temple, Mr. Jay vowed to fix himself so he could help fix others.

Determined, Mr. Jay put himself through school, researching self-help books, therapy, psychology, and spirituality.

Mr. Jay learned and stands by his motto: The relationship you have with yourself sets the tone for all other relationships around you. He says, “Relationships can break you, but even broken crayons can create beautiful masterpieces.

There has been so much that Mr. Jay has had to overcome and I am amazed by his tenacity!

In today’s episode, Mr. Jay shares about the moment he knew he needed to help and coach others, what his childhood was like and how he didn’t let it hold him back.

Mr. Jay is also a wedding officiant and what he calls himself is a matrimony coordinator. He lets them call the shots but he is able to give creative input having a theater background. He cannot emphasize premarital coaching more because everyone comes into their relationship with their own desires, and wants, and Mr. Jay shares how each couple believes their partner is going to complement those. However, all of a sudden when they’re not on the same page, conflicts arise.

It’s like all of a sudden you’re making these big decisions. And you may have these discussions when you’re in your twenties but then you get in your thirties and you’re a different person! So you have to keep having these discussions to maintain your relationship.

Marriage is no joke! And part of maintaining that relationship requires making time for a relationship with yourself.

Mr. Jay loves when he sees couples answer questions together with “We” however you can’t lose yourself in your marriage. You have to stay true to who you are. Stay afloat yourself and THEN you can better help those around you.
