National Women’s Health & Fitness Day

What does fitness mean to you? To me, it was my gateway into creating a healthy lifestyle. I always like to find ways to improve my health and help others with their health, especially women. So I had to write about National Women’s Health & Fitness Day!

This important day is observed on the last Wednesday of September, and it’s for women of all ages and backgrounds. Whether you’re a health-conscious woman who loves fitness or you’re a woman who wants to improve her health but isn’t sure how to do so, this day is for you. Here are some ideas for how to celebrate:

Get fit your way - Ladies, this is a day all about honoring you and the way you take care of your body. Regular exercise is proven to improve many aspects of health, so if you’re not already in the habit, let this be the start of a healthy new habit. Ask yourself this: What’s your favorite type of exercise? What fires you up? Get your body moving and exercise in a way that makes you happier.

Fitness with friends - Gather your girls and do some exercises together. Sometimes, people may not feel motivated to exercise on their own. But if their friends are doing it, they’re more likely to give it a try. You can be active with your friends, or even make new friends by joining a fitness group from meetup.com.

Try something new - Is there a fitness activity that you’ve never tried before because it’s a little out of your comfort zone? For example, it might be a type of fitness class, a dance class, a sport you’ve never played or haven’t played in a long time. Maybe you think you wouldn’t be good at it, but try it anyway. It could end up being something you unexpectedly like!

Schedule a doctor’s appointment - This isn’t fun and exciting, but it’s important. It’s time to schedule that doctor’s appointment you’ve been putting off. Maybe it’s a mammogram or gynecological appointment, or a general checkup. Even if you feel fine, a doctor visit is helpful for preventative care. Preventative care now can do a lot to protect your health in the future.

Journal your health goals - If you have a health-related goal, writing about it in a journal is something that can help you reach it. Use the journal to keep track of your daily progress. But also, write down some positive affirmations to uplift your mood and boost your confidence. That way, whenever you look at your journal, you’ll feel inspired, not pressured.

Healthy cooking fun - Experimenting with new recipes can be tricky, but still enjoyable. Browse Pinterest for healthy recipes and pick out whatever catches your eye. Healthy food does not have to taste bland -- that’s a myth! See what kinds of healthy food you can create, and if you have girl friends who are willing to join in, that’s even better.

Social media posts - Use the power of social media to motivate other women to take action for their health and fitness. Post about what you’re doing to get healthier today, and include the hashtag #WomensHealthFitnessDay. Send encouraging comments to other women who are on their fitness journey. It feels good to know that you can have a positive influence on other women!

Nighttime routine - Getting 7-8 hours of sleep is one of the best things you can to do keep yourself healthy. To get relaxed, indulge in soothing activities such as an oil-scented bath, reading a book while wearing cozy pajamas, or bedtime yoga and meditation. Give yourself plenty of time to do your routine so that you won’t get to bed super late. The next morning, you’ll be refreshed and cheerful.

Whatever fitness means to you, make the most of it on National Women’s Health & Fitness Day! As women, we should always build ourselves up and pay attention to our health while also supporting the wellness of other women. This way, we all become healthier and we can take care of each other.
