You Can't Always Get What You Want

Last month I decided to focus in on myself and not write a blog post as I wasn’t connected to a topic. When life becomes extremely busy, it’s easy to let a lot of things fall off the wagon. My nutrition and fitness have greatly improved but I found that my self-care was non-existent. What I have come to recognize is that SELF-CARE is vital to sustaining a healthy lifestyle. A week ago, I taught my lunch & learn on how to Reduce Stress and Improve Productivity at a consulting firm. As I was talking, my brain registered that I personally had not hydrated enough that day, meditated, or written in my journal for awhile. These are all things that make me feel like superwoman. How did I let that happen? I piled on activities, trips, work events, and a one woman show all within a month 1/2 and I was beat. Although I enjoyed every one of my trips, events, and writing/performing my show there was this negative self talk consuming my thoughts daily. Some of the reoccurring themes: Not good enough, I should be at this place in life right now, wanting things to happen now and fearful of the future. When I read them out loud, I knew that these are ridiculous because every day is an opportunity to grow and I’ve made so much progress.

Why am I even sharing this with you? Even coaches have doubt as we are human after all. Last week Tuesday I was very fortunate to see The Rolling Stones perform and the song “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” popped on. It was that ‘A-HA’ moment.

You can't always get what you want
But if you try sometime you find
You get what you need

- The Rolling Stones

Success is relative. What I wanted would come in due time but what I needed was to love myself and show gratitude for the place I’m in right now.
